Family Support Services

provides a safety net for Jewish individuals and families

“I can’t even express the words that could tell you how grateful I am for Jewish Family Services assistance. When I was in need of housing, clothing and food GCJFCS came forward with full support and understanding. Today I have a great job, a new outlook on life and a memory of love and care from JFS help. If there is any way I can help others in the future the way you have helped me, I would do this without question. I would be so humble and happy to do it! Thank you again for all the support. You truly saved a life.    Baruch HaShem”

Family Support Services provides Emergency Crisis Stabilization for Jewish clients from Pinellas and Pasco counties.  We provide personal case management and information & referral to other sources of assistance, both within the Gulf Coast agency and outside agencies in the local area.  Our goal is to support clients in need and help them increase their self-sufficiency.

Emergency financial assistance  for  utilities, housing, medical, transportation, and perishable food is supported via community-based Tzedakah funds from the Jewish Federation’s Koved Fund and the Gelbart Foundation Housing grant and from private donations.

The William & Sally Israel Food Pantry provides food and school supplies, along with limited clothing and household goods.  Clients can “shop” for the non-perishable food they need.  The Food Pantry is available by appointment only.  The Food Pantry is supported entirely by community donations.

JFS organizes four main donation drives during the year.  Operation Afikomen (spring) and Operation Isaiah (fall) request non-perishable food from the local community.  Operation School Supplies provides backpacks and school supplies for local children.  The Chanukah Gift Bazaar provides Chanukah gifts for families in need.

Volunteers are the life-blood of JFS.  Partnering with the Jewish Federation’s Volunteer Central (, we encourage the local Jewish community to support our various volunteer projects.

Community Service for Kids engages local youth to support the Food Pantry by conducting donation drives for food, household goods, toiletries and school supplies.  These projects can be done by youth groups, religious and pre-schools, and B’nai Mitzvah students.  Be creative and help collect food for the local community!

Family Support Services’ team of caring volunteers provide the community:
  • Kosher Food Pantry – providing critical, Kosher staples and is supplemented by a general food and supplies.
  • Emergency Support Services – during times of financial crisis.
  • Referrals – to organizations who can continue assist beyond the GCFJCS internal network
  • Hanukkah Gift Shop –  to bring light into the lives of our children.
  • Essentials –  in times of need, such as clothing, toiletries, household items, furniture, etc.

This program is made possible in part through a grant by the Jewish Federation of Pinellas & Pasco Counties.  We support the Federation’s principle of Klal Yisrael and the importance of our institution’s support of the annual Federation/UJC campaign.

The Koved Fund is supported by Jewish Federation of Pinellas & Pasco Counties and the June B. Gelbart Foundation (for housing assistance).

Private donations support the program and the Food Pantry.
