Gulf Coast Hosts Yad b’Yad Chanukah Party

Dreidels were spun, games were played, and a chicken and potato latkes dinner was enjoyed by all at this year’s Yad b’ Yad party.  Temple B’Nai Israel generously donated the space for this year’s gathering. The children (Little Yads), their parents and the volunteer mentors (Big Yads) shared an evening of Chanukah treats with each youngster receiving a gift as well as a gift card to do their own Chanukah shopping. The party and gifts were all made possible by a generous donation from Thelma Rothman and the Rothman Family Foundation.  The children and adults made Chanukah cards to thank Mrs. Rothman.

Many of the Yads have been meeting weekly for several years and become an important part of the family.  Recently, Little Yad Daniel Applefield became a Bar Mitzvah, and Big Yad Bob Berkowitz and his wife Linda were special guests.  Bob is always looking for new activities and fun things for them to do together.

The Yad B’ Yad Program matches Jewish children from single parent or special needs families with adult Jewish volunteer mentors. Through a variety of fun activities the adult Yad becomes a friend and role model for the child.  The program is supported by the Jewish Federation of Pinellas and Pasco Counties and private donations.
