2nd Annual Gladys Schutz Award Recipient Bettina Dodson

In 2011, Gulf Coast Jewish Family and Community Services established the Gladys Schutz Award for Exceptional Leadership. The award is given to an agency Director who goes above and beyond his or her job consistently and conveys extraordinary leadership in their work.  This year, the award was presented to Bettina Dodson, Director of the   Elderly Services program by Gladys Schutz in a ceremony attended by all agency management, several members of the Board of Directors and nearly 30 members of Bettina’s staff.

Bettina has been a director at Gulf Coast for over seven years. She has extensive experience with adult protective services, case management, adult day care and intake services, all of which fostered her leadership and management skills. Several years ago, Bettina was given the “Project Director of the Year” award from the Area Agency on Aging.

Board President Barbara Sterensis introduced Gladys, and told those assembled about Ms. Shutz’s unwavering devotion to philanthropic causes, her strong support for the Holocaust Museum and Temple Beth-El, as well as her long time association with Gulf Coast Jewish Family and Community Services. Gladys has traveled to both Tallahassee and Washington, D.C. to advocate on behalf of the agency’s refugee and children’s programs, speaking with passion and a belief that these vulnerable populations need a helping hand.  “This award represents what is best about Gulf Coast and we present this to you, Bettina, because you also represent the best of what Gulf Coast is all about. The love felt by your staff was so evident in the glowing nominations for you,” said Gladys. Comments like “Bettina is the reason that most of us realize the difference between just doing a job, and loving a job”, and “Bettina’s dedication to her job and her employees is one of a kind and should be acknowledged” say it all! There was not a dry eye in the audience as she posed for pictures after the presentation.

Thank You Gladys and congratulations Bettina Dodson!
