Remembering Congressman C.W. Bill Young

As many of you know, we have lost one of the greatest public servants we’ve had in our state’s history, when Congressman C.W. Bill Young died last Friday night, at the age of 82. As Florida’s longest serving member of Congress, Representative Young will be remembered as a true statesman and champion for the Tampa Bay area.

He brought hundreds of millions of dollars into Pinellas County and the Tampa Bay area with federal funding for roads, beaches, the arts, technology and research.  His work to support military families, our veterans and MacDill AFB is legendary and will leave a lasting legacy.

He helped several local non-profits secure funding, and most importantly enabled Gulf Coast Jewish Family and Community Services to win the grant of over $400,000 to build our Icot annex.  The plaque at the entrance of the annex bears the title “Congressman C.W. Bill and Beverly Young Annex – 2006”.  He also championed other federal service grants for Gulf Coast’s programs over the years.

It is safe to say the likes of a politician like Bill Young may never be seen again. The entire Tampa Bay area is a better place because of his service.

Please take a moment this week to remember this great man.
