The historic St Petersburg Coliseum was adorned in red, white and blue as Gulf Coast honored Philanthropist Harvey Hertz and the Honorable Bill Foster, mayor of St Petersburg, at its Annual Celebration on October 30th.  Board chair Barbara Sterensis shared with the audience that “Harvey has given generously to enhance lives and opportunities to the Jewish National Fund for Israel, to Temple Beth El, to the Holocaust Museum and to Gulf Coast Jewish Family and Community Services to ensure that Jewish Family Services and programs will thrive and grow into the future.”   In introducing Mayor Foster, Barbara noted that “the Mayor has been a strong supporter of social service issues and GCJFCS. We are grateful for all of his work for and commitment to social services.”

More than 350 guests filled the beautiful ballroom to enjoy a gourmet dinner catered by Michael’s on East, a silent auction and a performance by The Capitol Steps.  “This event was the culmination of the work of a lot of dedicated people who put their hearts into making sure tonight was a special evening”, commented Emily Gurtman, the Gala Committee Chairwoman.  A silent auction featured theatre tickets, bottles of fine wine, a delicious dinner prepared by award winning chef and owner of Café Ponte, Chris Ponte, and some very special get-a-ways to New York City; Bear Lake, Maine and Stockbridge, Georgia and Belleair Beach.  Capitol Steps regaled the audience with their witty and satirical comedy about both political parties and the state of our government. Proceeds from this event will go to support the more than 40 programs of Gulf Coast JFCS.
