Steven
Your life is what you make it—
and you should make it happy.
When a person is faced with a string of trials and unfortunate events, he must possess near inhuman strength to persevere. When a person is betrayed and broken down by another, he must have the courage and the character to keep from becoming bitter. Steven had to undergo many trials in life, and yet he manages to have the attitude and happiness that some of us never will.
Steven was born into a home filled with substance abuse. Sometimes Steven was treated with respect—most of the time without. Steven endured a maelstrom of drugs and abuse. When he was hit by an SUV at age eleven he entered a coma that lasted three months. Steven was a fighter and continued to live his life. When he was seventeen, he was sexually abused, but in spite of this trauma he finished high school and remained committed to developing a future.
Because of his brain injury and challenging life experiences, Steven requires more guidance than most teenage boys. Steven is part of the Young Adult Transitional Program. With the help of a life-coach, with whom he is very close, Steven has been able to gain independence by having his own apartment, learning life skills, and taking courses on how to manage his medication. He is making progress and making better life choices.
Primarily due to the help of the Young Adult Transitional Program, a very supportive uncle, and a loving girlfriend, Steven has taken all the bad that life that has dealt him and transformed it into positive energy. Steven remains open about his past and can brighten any room he enters. His strength is admirable, his courage overwhelming, but what is so striking about Steven is that he is not bitter and despondent but passionately forgiving and happy.
