Older Americans Act Counseling Program

The Older Americans Act Counseling Program is for seniors age 60 and older who reside in Pasco/Pinellas County. There is no cost or fee for counseling services.

We offer three services:
  • Group Counseling at local Senior Centers with topics ranging from Depress/Grief to Brain Games to keep your memory sharp.
  • Individual Counseling to provide support and guidance in times of need.

 

Individual counseling can take place in the client’s home or at one of the local Senior Centers.

Reasons to seek counseling:
  • depression signs and screening
  • reducing isolation/loneliness
  • caregiver stress
  • financial concerns
  • loss of a loved one
  • alcohol/medication misuse
  • chronic illness
Signals related to depression:
  •  Being easily upset
  • Not having energy
  • Social isolation, withdrawal
  • Increasing forgetfulness
  • Being afraid of things
  • Neglecting self-care of housework
  • Crying easily or a lot
  • Believing one can’t do anything worthwhile
  • Feeling hopeless or overwhelmed
  • Thinking life isn’t worth living
  • Thinking about hurting self
Signs related to alcohol or substance abuse:
  • Changes in sleep; sleep complaints
  • Persistent irritability
  • Unexplained complaints about pain
  • Unusual restlessness or agitation
  • Complaints of blurred vision or dry mouth
  • Changes in eating habits
  • Slurred speech
  • Tremor
  • Frequent falls or unexplained bruising
