The Older Americans Act Conseling Program is for seniors age 60 and older who reside in Pasco County. There is no cost or fee for counseling services.
We offer three services:
- Group Counseling
- Individual Gerontological Counseling
- Individual Mental Health Counseling
Individual counseling can take place in the client’s home or at one of our offices.
Typical subjects for groups include:
- depression signs and screening
- reducing isolation
- caregiver stress
- financial concerns
- advocay for victims of crime or fraud
- alcohol/medication misuse
Signals related to depression:
- Being easily upset
- Not having energy
- Social isolation, withdrawal
- Increasing forgetfulness
- Being afraid of things
- Neglecting self-care of housework
- Crying easily or a lot
- Believing one can’t do anything worthwhile
- Feeling hopeless or overwhelmed
- Thinking life isn’t worth living
- Thinking about hurting self
Signs related to alcohol or substance abuse:
- Changes in sleep; sleep complaints
- Persistent irritability
- Unexplained complaints about pain
- Unusual restlessness or agitation
- Complaints of blurred vision or dry mouth
- Changes in eating habits
- Slurred speech
- Tremor
- Frequent falls or unexplained bruising
