Community Care for the Elderly provides case management coordination to enable frail and functionally impaired elders to remain in their homes and to avoid or delay placement in a nursing home. Homemaking, personal care, respite and other services are coordinated through the program allowing elders to remain comfortable in the best environment possible—their own homes.
Margaret
There are few things in Carl’s life
more important than family.
He has accomplished much in his lifetime, from operating his own business to serving in the military. Much of Carl’s pride stems from the family he’s created and his three grown children. Nothing makes him happier than when he is around the ones he loves. With the services provided by Community Care for the Elderly, Carl’s 97-year old mother, Margaret and her friend Frank, are able to live at home with Carl and his wife.
Margaret, her aide Niki, and Frank can often be found sitting by the lake in the shaded backyard of Carl’s home. The three of them love to sit and watch the swans glide across the surface of the water. Margaret has been friends with Frank, also 97, for over 50 years. Spanning over half a century, they built a friendship that also included Margaret’s late husband and endured his passing. This friendship has now brought them together under one roof with her son and his wife.
Margaret suffers from Alzheimer’s disease and requires more care than her son or his wife can provide. Carl suffers from a degenerative spine condition and his wife runs a small business. Needless to say, neither of the
two can devote as much time as they’d like to Carl’s mother. Frank is a wonderful comfort and friend to Margaret and keeps her company throughout the day, though he is legally blind and requires some minor assistance himself. Community Care for the Elderly has given Carl the extra help he needs with case aide Niki, an indefatigable person, to fully care for his mother.
Carl says that he has been blessed with Niki. Margaret, being a “stubborn old Irish lady,” as her son affectionately calls her, sometimes fights against others’ desire to help her. Niki has established such a close and endearing relationship with Margaret that the two seem to be made for each other. She helps Margaret with personal tasks and chores that Carl is unable to perform. In describing the services of Community Care for the Elderly, Carl said, “It’s such a neat network, everyone works together.”
Carl says that everyone always loves his mother because of her giving personality. It’s not hard to see that such generosity runs in the family. When Margaret first started showing signs of Alzheimer’s and dementia, some suggested that she be placed in a nursing home. Carl wouldn’t hear of it. Now, with the caring help of Niki and the companionship of Frank, Carl and his wife’s family is bigger than ever.
