Gulf Coast hosts Yad b Yad Chanukah Party
Dreidels were spun, games were played, and a chicken and potato latkes dinner was enjoyed by all at this year’s Yad b Yad party. Temple B’Nai Israel generously donated the space for this year’s gathering. The children (Little Yads), their parents and the volunteer mentors (Big Yads) shared an evening of Chanukah treats with each youngster receiving a gift as well as a gift card to do their own Chanukah shopping. The party and gifts were all made possible by a generous donation from Thelma Rothman and the Rothman Family Foundation.
Little Yad Craig Miller and Program Coordinator Deena Silver presented Randy Rubenstein with a certificate of appreciation for his 7 years of dedication to the Yad B’ Yad program. Randy was matched with Craig when Craig was just 7 years old and was given an honor at Craig’s Bar Mitzvah. Randy has been an important part of Craig’s life. Since they were first matched, Randy has married and has two children. He still spends time with Craig and their families have become close friends.
The Yad B’ Yad Program matches Jewish children from single parent families with adult Jewish volunteer mentors. Through a variety of fun activities the adult Yad becomes a friend and role model for the child. The program is supported by the Jewish Federation of Pinellas and Pasco Counties and private donations.
